Ming Li, Ed.D.
Dr. Ming Li is Professor and Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Western Michigan University. Prior to joining WMU, Dr. Ming Li had served as interim executive director of the Center for International Studies and senior international officer at Ohio University for one year. He also had filled a wide range of other administrative posts at the university, including inaugural chair of the Department of Sports Administration in the College of Business for two years, acting associate dean for academic affairs for the College of Health and Human Services for a year, and director of the School of Recreation and Sport Sciences for eight years from 2002 to 2010. Dr. Li also taught at Georgia Southern University for 11 years and was coordinator of the university’s sport management program.
He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Guangzhou Sport University (PRC), his master’s degree in education from Hangzhou University (PRC), and his Doctor of Education from the University of Kansas in Physical Education (Sport Administration). Currently, Dr. Li serves as President of the Michigan Council for Deans of Public Colleges of Education. He used to serve as President of the Alliance for Sport Business (ASB), Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), and President of the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM). Chair of the Global Diversity Committee of the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE).
Dr. Li used to serve on the editorial boards of several professional journals, including Journal of Sport Management, Sport Marketing Quarterly, and International Journal of Sport Management. He was the recipient of the 1999 Taylor Dodson Award given by the Southern District American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), the 2014 Garth Paton Distinguished Service Award bestowed by NASSM, the Founding President Award presented by ASB, the Distinguished Alumni Award of the Guangzhou Sport University, and the 2017 Giving Back Award given by the INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. He will be presented with a Diversity Award by NASSM in June 2017.
