  2. Self-introduction by all attendants
  3. President Wang gave opening remarks
    He summarized the activities of CCADP in the past year
  4. Vice President Jin Kang Gong initiated the discussion on the revisions of the Bylaws and asked members to propose changes
  5. Secretary/Treasurer Wei Chen gave a brief report on the Council organization and financial status (The written report is available upon request)
  6. Secretary/Treasurer Wei Chen gave a brief report on the nomination and election of the next Board of Directors and asked for input from members


Session II  Update of Higher Education in China

Session III  Collaborations

Presiding: Dr. Jin Kang Gong, Associate Provost for Research and Collaborative Programs and dean of Graduate Studies, University of the Pacific

  1. Consul Wei Shao provided a general status of Confucius Institutes in the US and in the world
  2. Dr. Yenbo Wu, reported the development and activities of Confucius Institutes in the Bay Areas
  3. Dr. Jin Wang led the discussion on potential pre-forum workshops for our counterparts from Chinese universities; input was provided by the attendees for potential topics.  Dialogs will continue between CCADP and our Chinese colleagues for suitable future topics
  4. Colleagues from China reported their university missions and activities related to the globalization and international collaborations
  5. Jialin Zheng provided information on the Expo 2010 in Shanghai.  The Expo will be held from March to October, 2010.  The plan is to form a delegation of at least 10 CCADP members to attend the Expo, sometime in July, 2010, as the guests of Shanghai municipal government.  Four members made commitment to go and one expressed strong interest.  Jialin Zheng will provide more information on timing, logistics, cost, and programs for the potential CCADP delegation later.  Interested members are strongly encouraged to participate.
  6. Attendees had discussions on collaborations and potential projects in the future

Session IV  Leadership and Career Development

Presiding: Dr. Gregory Chan, Provost and Chief Academic Officer of St. Thomas University, and Honorary Consul of The Republic of Slovenia in Miami Beach, Florida

  1. Gregory Chan gave an extraordinary talk about the leadership in US higher education.  He provided advices for all attendees with ample first-hand experiences and heartfelt insights.
  2. Attendees joined Gregory Chan with discussions on the experience for the development of higher education leadership for the members

Session V Business Meeting (II)
Time and Date: 3:50 PM – 4:30 PM, January 30 (Saturday)

Presiding: Wei R. Chen

  1. Wei Chen announced the election results.  CCADP members, through email voting, have elected the following new Board of Directors: Jin Kang Gong, President
    Guilan Wang, Vice President
    Jialin Zheng, Treasurer/Secretary
    Attendees congratulated the new board of directors
  2. Attendees discussed potential affiliation of deans and presidents in China with CCADP.  With the input from the attendees from China, it was decided that this issue be tabled at this moment and be re-visited in a later time.
  3. The attendees discussed the venue of next forum.  The attendees decided to hold our next forum in January 2011 in Houston.  More details will be given later after the Board of Directors make further decisions on the time, topics, and other related issues.
  4. Attendees discussed the issues regarding the people who have involved in the CCADP prior to the formal establishment of CCADP (before January 2008) and who have not paid their membership dues.  It was decided that these people will be contacted by email and followed by phone calls from the President to make sure these people desire to be a member of CCADP, by obeying the Bylaws and staying active in CCADP.  Such requests and phone calls will be carried out the new Board of Directors in a timely fashion.
  5. The Board of Directors proposed one change on the Bylaws.  It was proposed to make the immediate past president as a non-voting member, for a one two-year term, of the Board of Directors to provide continuity.  The proposed addition was approved unanimously.  The detailed language of the change will be provided separately for the approval of all members.


Session VI  Leadership Development and Education

Time and Date: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM, January 30 (Saturday)
Location: Consulate General
Presiding: Jin Kang Gong

  1. Jinkang Gong and Guiyou Huang provided insights of leadership philosophy and opportunities in leadership training.
  2. Wei Chen, George Hong, Wei Zheng, and Jin Wang led the discussion on experiential learning and service learning.  Topics include the current emphasis on service learning in the US and in China.  Also discussed are the definitions and assessment of experiential learning.

Session VII Follow-Up Meeting
